Hout Bay resident Pete Goffe-Wood, 49, is a familiar face on our TV screens, where he is a regular MasterChef SA judge.

Why here?

My wife Elize and I, along with our two Labradors, Ben and Sam, have lived in Hout Bay for 12 years. Before that we lived in Franschhoek.

Hout Bay has the same beauty and village feel as Franschhoek; it doesn't feel as if you're living in the suburbs.

Down time

I enjoy a bit of a jol but these days I prefer to spend time at home; so much of my work is out and about so it's great to just chill.

When I have a day off I love to spend the morning shopping and then have people over for dinner. The afternoon is spent in the kitchen with some loud music and lots of wine.

On date night, Elize and I go to Woodcutters Arms in Main Road, Hout Bay - they've got beers on tap.

At sundowner time I like going to Chapman's Peak Hotel for the last of the sunset while enjoying a glass of chilled white wine.

Hout Bay is great because you can relax on the mountain or the beach. We're at the base of the Sentinel so I like to walk over the neck and go down to Dungeons.

Gourmet guy

I do all the cooking at home but my wife will make her requests known.

My best home-cooked meals are roast chicken, lamb curry or anything on the braai.

When I want great Italian coffee I head for Dario's Café in Victoria Road in Hout Bay. They also make a magnificentomelette.

On Sunday I'll make a traditional roast at home but sometimes we eat out at either the fabulous Thai Buffet at Kitima or calamari on the deck at Chapman's Peak Hotel.

Food and wine shopping

As a banter, the best place for a steak is at Carne SA in Keerom Street, Cape Town. I buy our meat at Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants in Church Street.

I enjoy going to food markets around Cape Town. On Thursday night there's a market at Cape Point Vineyards, Noordhoek. Friday night I like to visit Bay Harbour Market, Hout Bay. On Saturday it's got to be the Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock, and on Sunday Root 44, at Audacia Farm, Stellenbosch.

We are equidistant between Noordhoek and Constantia so we are blessed at having some of the finest wine in the Cape on our doorstep.

My favourites would be Cape Point Vineyards and Groot Constantia - both winemakers are mates of mine and produce outstanding wines.
