Inflation takes toll on motorists as Sanral ups charges

Tolls on national roads will increase by 6% from next week.

The increases will hit motorists using the N3 between Johannesburg and Durban, the N4 between the Mozambican border and Botswana, and on sections of the N2, N17, R30 and N1 - including the Huguenot Tunnel through the Du Toitskloof mountains between Paarl and Worcester, in the Western Cape.

From March 7, travelling from Johannesburg to Durban on the N3 will cost R204.50 in tolls, an increase of R10.50.

The good news for those living in Gauteng is that e-tolls will remain unchanged, as they have since 2013.

Sanral said it used the inflation rate as a guide in working out the cost increase.
