Sixteen of the country's top designers have been paired with 16 football super fans to create a glittering outfit that each club supporter can wear for the Nedbank Cup.

Last year, internationally renowned designer David Tlale created an outfit for Kaizer Chiefs fan Alfred Moloi. This year his challenge is to get creative with green and white for the Mangaung-based team, Bloemfontein Celtic.

The designer, who recently returned from a successful showing at New York Fashion Week, believes each team is equally important.

Tlale said Bloemfontein Celtic's colours were great to work with and that he felt honoured to be working with the fan from Free State.

He said: ''The opportunity will bring my brand closer to the customers there. It will open new business opportunities for me ."

He believes his outfit will be the show-stopper.

Said Tlale: "I think I'll learn a lot from the Bloemfontein Celtic super fan.

"He's full of energy and enthusiasm for his team."

Taking their cue from football codes, designers Tlale, Gavin Rajah, Anisa Mpungwe and Craig Jacobs arrived at Melrose Arch in Gauteng last Friday to have their football fan selected in a blind draw.

Now in its second year, the Nedbank Football Fan Fashion Challenge also features designers Chu Suwannapha (who must design a Kaizer Chiefs outfit), Gert-Johan Coetzee (Ajax Cape Town)and Christiaan and Malcolm from KLUK CGDT (Platinum Stars).

Through Nedbank Football Fan Fashion, each fan will work closely with a top designer, who in turn will mentor a student designer from one of three fashion schools across the country in the art of design.
