Bafana Bafana have moved up a place on the Fifa World Rankings, but dropped to No15 on the African continent, which could spell bad news ahead of the World Cup qualifiers starting later in the year.

Bafana are now at No55 in the global rankings, but have been overtaken on the African list by Gabon.

In theory, the lower South Africa's continental ranking, the more difficult their path to the World Cup in Russia in 2018 will be.

Algeria remain the top-ranked African side, followed by Ivory Coast, Ghana, Tunisia and Senegal. Cape Verde Islands, Nigeria, Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon round out the top 10.

Bafana will have the opportunity to pick up ranking points when they host the Super Eagles in a friendly international in Mbombela, Nelspruit, on March 29.
