What a pity that those of us who predicted the eventual discomfort with symbols of an unhappy past did not replace those street names, town names and statues with a more neutral disguise. It is because of this expectation that I created the ideal place in Darling on the West Coast.My venue, Evita se Perron, also houses a museum/ nauseum of recent history, and a collection of politically insensitive symbols. It is called Boerassic Park and I invite the national controversies to subside with this offer: I will give refuge to any racist statue that needs to be brought to heel in our democracy with its enshrined freedom of expression.Do not destroy steel to try to wipe out the past. Keep it to remind us of what once was seen as leadership - not to be repeated or tolerated.Only if we remember where we come from can we celebrate where we are going. ..
