Chiefs take scenic route to Casablanca

31 March 2015 - 02:01 By Mark Gleeson

Kaizer Chiefs face an arduous journey this week as they seek to keep their African Champions League hopes alive, flying for almost 18 hours to get to Casablanca. Amakhosi leave tomorrow night, but first fly eastwards to Dubai in the UAE to catch a connecting flight that will take them to Morocco's northwestern tip of Africa around lunch time on Thursday.A likely weary Chiefs squad then plan a walk on the beach to stretch their legs that day.The PSL leaders will have two more opportunities to train before Sunday night's second leg of the second round tie in which they will attempt to overturn 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Durban in the middle of last month.Chiefs then head home on the Monday afternoon and will arrive back at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday just before midday. This is why Chiefs have been granted a 24-hour postponement of their planned Absa Premier League match against AmaZulu. The game has been moved from April 8 to April 9 to allow the Chiefs players time to recover.Mamelodi Sundowns are taking no chances for their trip to Lubumbashi, where they will face TP Mazembe. They will charter a commercial flight on Friday and return after their match on Sunday in the southern Congolese city.Orlando Pirates play on Saturday in the African Confederation Cup as they try to defend a tenuous 2-1 lead over URA FC.They will fly to Kampala in Uganda on Thursday, play on Saturday at 4pm and then head home again on Sunday...
