Will the dwarf dominate, or will the wily Tyrion Lannister get even shorter when his head is chopped off? That's the question on the lips of thousands of fans of the global hit TV series Game of Thrones, which returns to our screens tonight after a 10-month hiatus. The first episode of season five premiered in the wee hours of Monday for DStv Explora viewers - only an hour after it was broadcast in the US.Those with premium DStv accounts get to see the first episode tonight at 9pm, while those with compact decoders will miss out on it altogether.Although DStv is keeping quiet about the viewership expected for tonight, and about how many people tuned in on Explora on Monday morning, The New York Times reported that the season five premiere in the US reached eight million live and same-day viewers. The number, reported by research firm Nielsen, reflects Game of Thrones' status as HBO's most-watched original series ever. Its season four finale in June averaged 19million cumulative viewers in the US.The first four episodes were leaked on the internet hours before the premiere episode was to air on the cable network. They were reportedly downloaded more than 100000 times in three hours. In the new season "In the house of Lannister", Tyrion's brother, Jaime, and sister, Queen Cersei Baratheon, are intent on avenging the murder of their father.Over in the house of Targaryen, challenges loom for the beautiful blonde Queen of the Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, as turmoil between the different tribes she has taken under her wing put her in a compromised position.Meanwhile, young Arya, from the House of Stark, is still trying to find her feet in the wilderness, while her fleeing sister, Sansa Stark, transforms herself under the care of Petyr Raelish.Their bastard brother, Jon Snow, finds himself caught between Stannis Baratheon and King-Beyond-the-Wall Mance Rayder, which could be a tough call for him because he has affectionate connections with the Wildings.DStv spokesman Lani Lombard said the premiere showed that season five would be full of twists and turns."Game of Thrones is without a doubt one of the biggest series of our time."When the Iron Throne made an appearance at Sandton City last year people queued for three days to be photographed with it."..
