Hlophe weds in Muslim ceremony
Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe converted to Islam two months ago in order to wed fellow judge Gayaat Salie-Samuels. The two were married yesterday in a traditional Muslim ceremony - the nikkah - at a mosque in Claremont, which was followed by a lavish reception at the Steenberg Golf Estate, in Tokai.It was attended by about 100 guests, including Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, who toasted the newlyweds."In the context of Freedom Day their marriage symbolises non-racialism and tolerance among all South Africans."This wedding, attended by people from different religious groups, represents the true rainbow nation and shows that people from all religious groups can live side-by-side in South Africa," the chief justice said.Salie-Samuels was appointed to the bench last year...
