A giraffe walks across a paved road at the Nairobi National Park in Kenya's capital Nairobi, September 19, 2014. The park is located just 7km (4 miles) away from the city centre of Nairobi.

Giraffes look harmless but they can be killers too.

A Sunday afternoon cycle ride for Braan Bosse of Nigel, on the Far East Rand, ended in his death when he was attacked by a giraffe at the Thaba Monata Game Lodge, in Bela Bela, Limpopo.

Lodge owner Marily Ab atemarco believes Bosse, 46, was trampled to death.

Limpopo police said an inquest docket had been opened.

  • In East London, a man was mauled to death by lions after he jumped into their enclosure at the local zoo yesterday.

"According to the CCTV footage, he was alone and did not display any signs of being distressed," Buffalo City spokesman Thandy Matebese said yesterday.
