ANC accuses DA of colluding with Cape gangsters
The ANC has dredged up a two-year-old investigation into claims that construction companies contracted to the City of Cape Town paid gangsters in Manenberg for security services. The ANC released a statement yesterday calling on DA leader Helen Zille to declare any proceeds she might have received from gangsters.The ANC's local government spokesman in the Western Cape, Richard Dyantyi, said it had information that the DA administration had been "informed in 2012 that they have gangsters on its database"."Some gangsters were employed by the city and its contractors that are upgrading rental housing stock," Dyantyi said.The DA said it had alerted the authorities as soon as the allegations came to light. The city's mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said he had been the "whistle blower"."I placed the issue on record calling for all information to be shared with the police.
