DA 'makes Fort Hare weep'

University of Fort Hare management was "crying" because the DA Student Organisation would expose corruption. This was what DA leader Mmusi Maimane told students at the university's main campus in Alice yesterday.Daso recently won the elections for the Fort Hare students' representative council."The ANC top six are crying. [University] management is also crying because they are now realising that they will no longer [be able to] protect corrupt people [and] professional students who thought that they would remain in the SRC forever."University spokesman Zintle Filtane urged Maimane, Daso and the public to report evidence of corruption to 0800 11 93 26 toll-free, or to a chapter 9 institution."We do not know of any corruption [covered up] by management."She was also not aware of a "relationship" between Fort Hare and the ANC.Maimane said he would contact Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande to resolve the impasse over the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. It was reported on Tuesday that students had resorted to sleeping in the finance buildings on the East London and Alice campuses so they could claim allowances for food and books...
