ANC, SACP, Cosatu clash in Tshwane

Tensions have reached boiling point in the tripartite alliance in Tshwane, with the SA Communist Party and trade union federation Cosatu threatening to disrupt metro council sittings. The SACP, Cosatu and the SA National Civic Organisation in the region yesterday also threatened to mobilise Tshwane residents against paying for services if the municipality did not address their grievances by Monday.Divisions within the alliance started surfacing in November 2012 when the SACP, Cosatu and Sanco accused Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa of leading a corrupt administration.Ramokgopa has on numerous occasions challenged his detractors to prove their corruption and maladministration claims.Apson Makaung, SACP secretary in the region, demanded an audit of municipal employees' qualifications, a probe into allegations of corruption in the metro police and office of the Speaker, Morakane Mosupyoe-Letsholo, and in the finance and transport departments.ANC spokesman in Tshwane, Teboho Joala, said the party tried in vain to extend an olive branch to the disgruntled members. He said there were plans to call an alliance summit to resolve the tensions...
