Refs review unit to ring changes

Under fire for being a body that seems to exist in name only, the referee's review committee will strengthen its role in the Premier Soccer League next season by attending games and interrogating match commissioners, whose reports it relies on to do its job. This was the promise made by committee chairman Didiza Ngutshana this week following a 2014-2015 season in which referees were again under the microscope for questionable decisions."We've always played a critical role as far as the referees' performance is concerned, but there are obvious challenges and we realise we need to be more proactive," he said."We need to understand how the assessors - the match commissioners - get to their conclusions. These are the people at the coalface of the action."Referees were also not being held accountable for their poor officiating, according to PSL coaches, a view Ngutshana partly agreed with."But we don't subscribe to monetary punishments. Corrective measures that include referee workshops are better," he said.Ngutshana, along with his panel, meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays to review matches played the previous weekend...
