Stage Rage: 'Mad edgy' play packs a wallop

29 May 2015 - 02:22 By Sylvia McKeown

Tired of the traditional and mundane long-form theatre with two intervals? How about five bite-sized chunks of performance to be taken with a pinch of salt and a dash of lime? POPart, the little fringe theatre that could, is playing host to the new Andre Odendaal-directed Whiskey and Cigarettes, a dark comedy starring Glen Biderman-Pam and Carla Fonseca.Said Odendaal: "It is non-linear, non-conventional, confrontational and mad edgy. Everything theatre should be."The theatre is bare save the two actors, a table and a couple of chairs, but what it lacks in props and fanfare it makes up for in fast-paced, sexy, gritty moments. Fonseca's performance art training and Biderman-Pam's stand-up comedy abilities bring a lot to the table.Catch "Whiskey and Cigarettes"until Sunday at POPart Theatre in Maboneng, tickets available at popartcentre.co.za..
