Gauteng TV on the blink

After blowing R6-million on a failed television station, the office of the Gauteng premier now wants another R6-million to get the project off the ground. The Gauteng Provincial Television station was launched on November 1 2013, intended to deliver "important government messages" to the people of Gauteng and to report on service delivery.It was piloted at 21 sites but researchers yesterday presented a report in which they described the project as a failure.They said they found no Gauteng Provincial Television screen at reception, or in the foyer, of the Gauteng department of social development, contrary to claims by Premier David Makhura's office.There was one screen in the reception area of the Gauteng department of human settlements offices, which had been provided with three screens. One GTV screen was found in a store-room, the other in an official's office.There were two GTV screens at Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital, in Soweto, but neither worked and "there seem to be surprise from officials that the GTVs were off".The government committee that received the report agreed that GTV was " not value for money" and called on the premier's office to justify the scheme...
