Thumbs up for Clifton Precinct

The City of Cape Town yesterday approved the controversial sale and lease of a multimillion-rand property in Clifton. The council voted in favour of a public tender for the sale of parts of the land and the lease of the rest.A number of Clifton residents have objected to the sale of the land, with Clifton Organised - formed in reaction to the proposal - leading the charge.Known as the Clifton Precinct, the land has parking garages used by Clifton bungalow owners, a restaurant and sports grounds.The city wants a developer to build an underground parking garage and shops.Janey Ball, of Clifton Organised, said they were disappointed by the decision."What we were hoping for was a higher level of transparency," she said, adding that yesterday's minutes would be reviewed before the group decided on its next move. ..
