West gives his best at fest

Kanye West delivered an uncompromising headline performance at Glastonbury festival on Saturday that ignited when the US rapper left the Pyramid Stage to take to the sky for hits Touch The Sky and All of the Lights. The announcement of his appearance prompted thousands to sign a petition against the choice of a rap act for the top billing, but West proved the doubters wrong by attracting a large audience .He opened his set with Stronger, while later Touch the Sky was abandoned a few bars in, only to restart with West high above the stage on a crane lift in a breathtaking moment of theatre.The Dalai Lama made his first appearance at Glastonbury yesterday, spending an hour in the rain addressing festival-goers on how the world could be happier.The elderly Buddhist monk was treated to a rendition of "Happy Birthday" by the crowd in honour of his 80th year, and urged them to "think seriously about how to create a happy world, a happy 21st century - that's the best gift for me".Lionel Ritchie led a 100000-strong karaoke session yesterday as Glastonbury festival-goers sang along to a string of hits including Easy Like Sunday Morning and Dancing on the Ceiling.The former Commodores singer affected mock horror at the enthusiastic participation of the audience and saying the enormous crowd was "out of control".Ritchie, aged 66, only had to sing half of the lyrics to Hello as the audience filled in the gaps, while All Night Long turned a muddy field in southwest England into a carnival...
