It's hard work to be happy

Feeling overworked and underpaid? It seems you're the exception to the rule. Some 85% of employees in a survey in North America said they were happy in their jobs despite having to work into the night and at weekends. They said that answering work e-mails on their smartphones around the clock did not stop them feeling motivated in the office, MailOnline reported.Confusingly, 43% said they felt overworked and 49% said they felt burnt out, but researchers said the apparent contradiction could be because people with too much time on their hands got bored and would rather be back at their desks.Employees could also have become "conditioned" to giving their lives to their jobs and leaving little time for themselves or their family. The study of 2600 people also found that breaks are becoming rare, with half of employees feeling they cannot take them and 40% eating lunch at their desk. The research was carried out on US and Canadian workers by Staples, an office supplies chain, and WorkplaceTrends.com.Researcher Dan Schawbel said: "With the rise of the mobile workforce and the resulting 'always on' work culture, it's not a surprise that employees are feeling overworked and burnt out."While many are still happy at work, we have to ask whether it's because they're truly inspired and motivated, or simply conditioned to the new reality?" ..
