Serfontein in the ‘final phase of rehab’

Even school children are wary of the Springboks' walking wounded. The Springboks yesterday held a training session at St Peter's College in Sunninghill and several kids waited on the sidelines for their heroes to sign autographs.But as Jan Serfontein, who has been out of action for five weeks due to a knee injury, approached, one boy stopped his friends as they made a beeline for the Bulls player, warning : "No, not him. He's one of the injured ones."Serfontein took the minor snubbing in his stride, smiled, patted the youngsters on their heads and continued his walk to the dressing room. He is expected to be given a clean bill of health before the Boks face a World XV side in Cape Town next week.Said Serfontein: "I'm now in my final phase of rehab, so I'm hoping to be back on the field next week again. Fitness may be a bit down, but that is something one can work on your own. I'm just hoping to get some game time now against the World XV with the Championship coming up."Serfontein's injury might have been one of the reasons that Jaque Fourie stepped out of international retirement to rejoin the Bok side...
