Midlands dairy ad leaves sour taste for NSPCA

A dairy farm in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands has been ordered to withdraw billboard advertising claims that its products are produced using milk from free range cows. This follows a complaint lodged by the National Council of SPCAs to the Advertising Standards Authority against Fairfield Dairy.The NSPCA questioned the honesty, substantiation and truthful presentation of the material."The matter went before the ASA and was resolved when the dairy gave an undertaking to withdraw and remove the material," the organisation said in a statement."Consumers deserve honesty. The NSPCA promotes humane farming methods and believes in absolute transparency with regard to the advertising and marketing of foods."Fairfield Dairy sells to major supermarkets. Its product range includes Ayrshire milk, yoghurt and cheese. It won 17 prizes at this year's SA Dairy Championship, including an award for Food Lover's Market's low-fat, butter toffee- flavoured milk...
