Khumalo: A bargain buy for Supersport United?

Supersport United hope to successfully conclude negotiations with former Bafana Bafana captain Bongani Khumalo in the next few days even though the experienced centre back is still sending out mixed signals. Khumalo featured for the club in two matches in the weekend's Cape Town Cup and coach Gordon Igesund said negotiations might be concluded this week."[Club CEO] Stan Matthews has been in discussions with him and, of course, I would be delighted to get him in," said Igesund on Sunday.But just a few weeks ago, Khumalo said he wanted to continue his career overseas, despite his contract with Tottenham Hotspur ending.Khumalo, who never played for Spurs in a competitive match during his four-year deal, no longer qualifies for a work permit in Britain.Spurs loaned him to Preston North End, Reading, PAOK Salonika in Greece, Doncaster Rovers and Colchester United.Should Khumalo sign for Supersport, it will represent some tidy business for the club. They sold Khumalo to Spurs in 2011 for £1.5-million, roughly R15-million at the time or close to R30-million at today's exchange rate. He returns gratis - save for the personal terms Khumalo will seek from the club...
