5 bands to bop at Oppikoppi

Deciding who to check out at Oppikoppi is no small task. So many names, so little time. To help ease your burden, here are five bands you need to see there: BANTU CONTINUA UHURU CONSCIOUSNESS OR BCUCDo not be put off by the pan-African pretentiousness of their name, BCUC are arguably one of the best live acts in the country at the moment. Each of their songs a carefully curated fusion of African sounds, chanting and story telling done in a way that no one else is doing at the moment.LIVINGSTONPartially birthed in Pretoria, but presently based in the UK and Germany, they are a five-piece heavy rock band with a penchant for playing a ditty when they think no one is watching.BYE BENECOIf you were to take a rainbow and give it a range of obscure instruments you might get something like this psychedelic pop band.OKMALUMKOOLKATWith his hyper-infectious mix of dance music and hip-hop, you can count on Okmalumkoolkat to get on top of something during his life show and dance like a rubber puppet on a string.GOGOL BORDELLOIf these were your parents you would spend you life dying from embarrassment but grow up to be one of the most interesting people in the world. The gypsy punk band puts on an eccentric live performance that would impress anyone who is not an accountant. Oppikoppi takes place from August 7 to August 9.
