SA A crash in Asian cricket tournament

South African teams' lacklustre performances in the Asian sub-continent continued yesterday when South Africa A crashed to their Australian counterparts in Chennai in the first match of a one-day competition also involving India A. Dean Elgar's team were dismissed for 171 runs, 73 of which were shared by the captain and Reeza Hendricks for the first wicket. The last nine wickets tumbled for 69.The Aussies strolled to victory by nine wickets with 19 overs to spare on the back of an opening stand of 142 between Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns.Hendricks's 43 was the top score in an innings in which no other batsman reached 30.Elgar, whose five overs cost 19 runs, was the only SA A bowler to concede fewer than four runs an over. Seven no-balls and four wides only added to the problems. The good news is that SA A have time to work on their challenges as their next match, against India A, isn't until Sunday. SA's Test squad returned from Bangladesh on Tuesday having been beaten by the monsoon in their bid to win a two- match series. But that was an improvement on SA's performance in the one-day rubber, in which they blew a 1-0 lead to lose a series to Bangladesh for the first time...
