TRADE union federation Cosatu has called for Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer to be fired following what it termed "racist choices" as well as a spate of losses suffered by the team in the Rugby Championship. This came a day after the union federation revealed that five black Springbok players had approached it alleging they were being left out of the starting lineup by Meyer because of their skin colour.Cosatu has withheld the names of the five and those of two white players who were also said to be disgruntled about the slow pace of transformation in elite rugby. "We want the coach removed and a team selected that represents all the people of South Africa," Cosatu said.Cosatu's Western Cape secretary-general Tony Ehrenreich said the federation would approach the SA Rugby Union and Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula about the matter before the start of next month's Rugby World Cup in the UK.Mbalula declined to comment - but took to Twitter to back the current setup and suggest that those who are frustrated cannot expect change "overnight".A Saru spokesman said: "Saru recently signed an MOU [Memorandum of Understanding] with the government and Sascoc on a strategic transformation plan for rugby. "Our focus now is on delivering on our understanding with them."The SA Rugby Players' Association said it was unaware of the issues raised by the unnamed black players. - Additional reporting by ReutersSee Page 18 ..
