Old rivals take up PSL fight again

The early season meeting between two of the favourites to win the Premier Soccer League also revives a rivalry between the last two local coaches to win a league title. Saturday's clash at Atteridgeville between Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns is only the second game of the league campaign for both, yet it might give an early indication of the destiny of the title. It is also the latest chapter in the rivalry between Gavin Hunt and Pitso Mosimane.Hunt, who won three titles on the trot with Supersport United between 2008 and 2010, has won half of their 16 previous meetings, with just two successes for Mosimane, who took Sundowns to the title last year. They have shared six draws.Last season only one goal was scored in the two league games, with the early-season meeting between Sundowns and Wits finishing goalless in TshwaneThe return at Milpark Stadium in March was settled by Sibusiso Vilakazi's late winner.Mosimane's last success over Hunt was in September 2013, when Khama Billiat scored the winner in a 2-1 triumph at Loftus Versfeld. While there is a keen rivalry, it is also obvious that there is mutual respect. When Mosimane was first in charge of the national team in 2007, holding down the job while Carlos Alberto Parreira was working out his contract, he invited Hunt to travel with the team as an adviser for a key African Nations Cup qualifier in Lusaka.South Africa won that game 1-0 for one of their best-ever away results. The track recordHunt (Leopards, Swallows, Supersport, Wits) vs MOSIMANE (Supersport, Sundowns)2001-02 Supersport United 1 Black Leopards 12002-03 Supersport United 1 Moroka Swallows 1Moroka Swallows 3 Supersport United 12003-04 Moroka Swallows 3 Supersport United 0Supersport United 1 Moroka Swallows 42004-05 Supersport United 2 Moroka Swallows 2Moroka Swallows 0 Supersport United 02005-06 Moroka Swallows 3 Supersport United 0Supersport United 0 Moroka Swallows 12006-07 Supersport United 1 Moroka Swallows 0Moroka Swallows 0 Supersport United 02012-13 Mamelodi Sundowns 0 Supersport United 12013-14 Mamelodi Sundowns 2 Bidvest Wits 1Bidvest Wits 3 Mamelodi Sundowns 12014-15 Mamelodi Sundowns 0 Bidvest Wits 0Bidvest Wits 1 Mamelodi Sundowns 0..
