Phiyega SMS issue brushed aside in parliament

The Riah Phiyega SMS was yesterday swept under the carpet in parliament as police portfolio committee chairman Francois Beukman said that she should do some "serious reflection". The about-turn took DA member and recipient of the SMS Dianne Kohler Barnard by surprise.On Tuesday all members of the committee expressed shock at the SMS sent last week.Kohler Barnard said that in a "sidebar" of committee members yesterday morning they all committed to dealing with the matter "most severely and all members were ready to speak as they did yesterday".But by the time the matter was discussed Beukman brushed it aside. He said the parties had on Tuesday had a chance to express their views and Phiyega had acknowledged the SMS."I think we just need serious reflection on the issue by the accounting officer and we will just leave it there."Kohler Barnard said she was not happy with the result.Phiyega did not comment on the matter...
