Malema caught up in stoning

Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema's tour of the Tshwane University of Technology campuses in Pretoria yesterday to garner support ahead of the students' representative council elections today descended into chaos and he had to be whisked off stage by bodyguards at his last stop. The EFF's student command already controls the Soshanguve campus. It is gunning to reclaim it and add Garankuwa and Pretoria campuses to its conquests.His first port of call, at the Garankuwa campus, was incident-free but his last stop - at Soshanguve campus - was marred by violence as sjambok-wielding SA Students Congress members attempted to disrupt his speech.A female student was admitted to hospital after she was hit on the head with a brick.Police had to fire stun grenades to restore calm.Malema was whisked off the stage by his bodyguards when Sasco members pelted the venue with stones.Earlier, EFF members armed with steel pipes and sticks marched through the campus and vowed to protect themselves.Malema said students were living and studying in appalling conditions, while R246-million was spent on President Jacob Zuma's private home in Nkandla . He said the money could have been used to alleviate the plight of students.Malema also spoke about the Marikana massacre, saying Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa had blood on his hands."So, when you vote, think about that," he said...
