Splitsville for AKA, Zinhle

The latest local A-listers to enter the "friend zone" are rapper AKA and DJ Zinhle.

Yesterday the couple released a joint statement that they were breaking up barely two months after the birth of their daughter, Kairo Owethu Forbes.

The statement read: "After a great deal of thought, reflection and discussion we have decided to end our relationship of three years. We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it."

The news came as a bit of a surprise as AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes, observed Zulu traditions over the weekend by paying damages to Zinhle's family for impregnating her out of wedlock.

While AKA is known for his sharp tongue on Twitter, he was largely mum about their break-up on social media. But that didn't stop fans from weighing in on the "break-up of the year".

@Junbugstone said: "LOL, apparently DJ Zinhle could only take care of one baby and had to chase away the old one."

@MssNtsika welcomed the break-up saying: "I feel bad for AKA and Zinhle but at the same time I'm ecstatic cause I can start direct messaging him again."

According to the statement, the two would co-parent Kairo whose "happiness and wellbeing remains our number one priority".

In a recent Destiny Magazine interview, Zinhle said: "This [relationship] is one situation where I don't know how things will unfold - a terrible thing for a person like me - a pre-planner, but I know there is a solution for everything."
