Brits to use positive spirit to help build the Boks

01 September 2015 - 02:03 By Craig Ray

Successful World Cup campaigns can easily be derailed from within, so it's essential that fringe players remain motivated and positive - traits that hooker Schalk Brits embraces. The Saracens front-rower understands that he is very much the third-choice hooker in the Bok set-up, and he also knows that his attitude will play an important role in the campaign. In 2007, then Bok coach Jake White said that the success the team enjoyed was largely down to third-choice players, who hardly had any game time. And it will be no different in 2015.Injuries aside Brits will probably only see action in minor Pool games against Japan and the US. The same might be true for third choice scrumhalf Rudy Paige and flyhalf Morné Steyn. It's not easy, but it's where open communication and understanding of roles plays an important part in success, or otherwise."I've been trying to keep a positive outlook," said Brits, who played only 40 minutes for the Springboks this year."I'm there to help build and motivate the team, build the spirit and help the team function.Unfortunately, only 23 can play every match, so you have to stay positive."..
