SA rowing crews stroke their way into world championship finals

Three of South Africa's rowing crews yesterday advanced to tomorrow's A-finals at the world rowing championships at Aiguebelette, France, but the big casualty was the heavyweight men's pairs. Shaun Keeling and David Hunt ended fifth in their heat, three seconds behind the third spot they needed to make the A-final.Last year Keeling and Vince Breet won the bronze medal in this event.Keeling and Hunt will race in the B-final.Defending champions James Thompson and John Smith held onto third place for the duration of their lightweight double sculls semifinal to book a spot in the final.In the women's lightweight double sculls, Kirsten McCann and Ursula Grobler led for most of their semifinal before being pushed into second spot by Canada.The women's pair of Naydene Smith and Lee-Ann Persse finished second in their semifinal behind the US...
