Sure, there's dancing and music at parties but often they lack more excitement - most people have the rhythm of a shivering brick. There is one party, however, that does not need articulated hips to be fun.Now in its fourth year, Amaze is a gaming media festival aimed at bringing together game designers, players, digital activists and anyone else who wants to join. Before you roll your eyes and think "nerd party", bear in mind the strain that Angry Birds or Candy Crush is putting on your battery. The festival combines various levels of interactive gaming with music in a playful space. Some of the games being exhibited, many of which were developed by South African game designers, are Cloud Chaser - a game in which players experience the travails of immigration as they trek through five deserts on their way to the land in the sky; the Consensual Torture Simulator - a game about hurting someone who wants it; and Arcade Finger Twister - an arcade-like take on the old family favourite game Twister, and inspired by the mobile hit Fingle. The festival will end with the "Jump 'n Run" closing party, which promises to be all fun and games.Amaze runs until tomorrow.
