Lucas Sithole gets double nomination at Gauteng Sports Awards launch

The finalists for the Gauteng Sports Awards were announced in Johannesburg last night. Wheelchair tennis star Lucas Sithole received the most individual nominations and could claim awards in two categories.The world No2-ranked wheelchair tennis player has been nominated for the sportsman with a disability category, alongside Paralympics athletes Andrea Dalle Ave and Pieter du Preez.He is also up for the top prize of sports personality of the year with Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk and cyclist William Mokgopo.Olympic medallist swimmer Cameron van der Burgh will be vying for the sportsman of the year award with sprinter Akani Simbine and volleyball's Dalane Dube.Caroline Wostmann - the 2015 winner of both the Comrades Marathon and the Two Oceans Marathon - will face archer Jeanine van Kradenburg and table tennis player Danisha Patel.The winners will be named at a ceremony on October 11.Finalists in major categories:Sports team of the year - Tuks cricket team, Tuks Varsity football team and University of Johannesburg volleyball club.Sportsman of the year - Dalane Bhekani (volleyball), Cameron van der Burgh (swimming) and Akani Simbine (athletics).Sportswoman of the year - Danisha Patel (table tennis), Caroline Wostmann (athletics) and Jeanine van Kradenburg (archery)...
