After huge success with their first album, "yes/no/grey/", Durban band Gangs of Ballet release their new EP, Form and Function Part 1, in Pretoria tonight. Earlier this year the group suffered a blow when their bassist, Hardus de Beer, left the band, but they are determined to reinvent themselves as a trio. The group said they had adapted well to the new reality by following the Bauhaus principle of "form follows function" that inspired the title of their first EP Form and Function. The trio, Brad Klynsmith, Josh Klynsmith and Jonathan Rich, say they hope their fans will enjoy their now-evolved sound."The six-track EP promises a different sound to the signature sound the band had."The new electronic sound is not meant to change us completely, but to add value to our craft," said Rich."We hope the fans love our new sound, as people have to reinvent themselves not to become stagnant," said Brad. The group experienced some difficulty being one member short, but said the transition had been smooth."We were together for four years and, even though the change has been very smooth, we feel like (we) have lost a brother on the road. We didn't want to replace him. Instead we are compensating for that one member," he added. The band said they hoped more doors would open after their first performance in Dubai next month."The South African market is very small, so we would like to see our music travel beyond the borders," they said...
