Suspended ANC councillor banks on the DA

12 October 2015 - 02:40 By Shanaaz Eggington

A Cape Town ward councillor suspended by the ANC for allegedly neglecting his council duties was welcomed into the DA fold yesterday. According to the ANC, Siseko Mbandezi, from Kraaifontein, has been working full-time as a banker and as a result has "shown no concern and no desire to turn things around in his community".But yesterday Siseko denied the allegations, saying he was a victim of infighting over ward positions in the ANC. "They never came to me to tell me they have a problem with my work. I have done my work as a councillor, spending 90% of my budgets since 2011."I had to hear through the media they have already taken a decision to suspend me. This is so unfair and left me with no other choice than to join the DA."DA leader in the Western Cape Patricia de Lille said she was glad Siseko had joined the party. "Particularly in the run-up to the election next year, more and more people in the Western Cape will unite behind the DA and help us to strengthen our majority."The ANC said it had "long been concerned about the fact that Siseko works full-time as a banker, with hardly any time for community issues"...
