Old friend could scupper Gordon Igesund's career

In a game that could determine his fate as Supersport United coach, Gordon Igesund will probably wish Serame Letsoaka wasn't his opposite number when Matsatsantsa host Golden Arrows in the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout tomorrow night. Letsoaka, who was Igesund's right-hand man at Bafana Bafana and Supersport United for a combined period of three years, will have a slight advantage when the two sides face off at Peter Mokaba Stadium . Arrows beat Supersport 2-1 on Tuesday night in a Premiership encounter in Atteridgeville."We had actually planned to get a point in that game because we were playing away from home," said Letsoaka. "So our approach will not be too different in the cup game."I have a job to do, and I promised my boss I would deliver when I was hired. There are no friends in football. Yes, we are friends off the field, but when we are on it, the friendship is over."Igesund admitted shortly after the defeat to Arrows that his job was on the line, adding that the loss on Tuesday had put him and his technical team under tremendous pressure.Letsoaka, surprisingly, had no sympathy."In this job, you have to protect yourself by getting the three points, fighting for everything that is at stake. And that is what we did. Our priority is to stay in the Premier League. Of course, we want to do well in the cup, but we have got to prioritise because we have a tight league fixture coming up."Igesund said: "I am absolutely sure that we are going to come out with a [positive] result."..
