Western Cape eateries dominate awards

Western Cape restaurants dominated the 2015 Eat Out Restaurant awards yesterday, with Luke Dale-Robert's The Test Kitchen named Restaurant of the Year for the fourth year in a row. Walking away with the Chef of the Year award was Scot Kirton of La Colombe. The establishment was placed second on the list of top restaurants.Third spot went to The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français.Greenhouse at the Cellars-Hohenort, in Constantia, and Five Hundred at The Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg took the fourth and fifth places, respectively.Dale-Roberts's second Cape Town restaurant, the Pot Luck Club, in Woodstock, came in at number nine in the top 10.Franschhoek-based restaurant The Tasting Room was recognised with the Service Excellence award for maintaining the highest standard of service for the second year running.The winner of the Lannice Snyman Lifetime Achievement award was grand dame of hospitality the late Liz McGrath.The Nederburg Rising Star award went to Carmen Muller of The Tasting Centre at Rupert & Rothschild in Franschhoek.The Wine Service award for a top sommelier was won by Lloyd Jusa of Five Hundred at The Saxon.Greenhouse also received the Boschendal Style award.The award ceremony was attended by 600 guests, some coughing up R1500 a ticket for special treats and cuisineprepared by the best of local chefs."This year's theme was Sunday lunch because we wanted to take people back to their families' Sunday-lunch [memories] so we had to dig out everything from the Eat Out archives," said general manager of Eat Out Aileen Lamb...
