Take a blank piece of A5, add artistic inspiration and a dollop of happy intent then multiply by 1000. You've got yourself an art sale that's also a charity event, that's also a midweek party. Night of 1000 Drawings makes its return to Joburg tomorrow night after a two-year hiatus. The event takes place at the old Transvaal Post Office at 20 Solomon Street, Braamfontein.Expect halls strung with line upon line of string and pegs holding up drawings, doodles and real art gems. The artworks were made in the months leading up to tomorrow's event. They're the work of top artists, emerging artists and those who can only do stickmen drawings. The artworks are anonymous and displayed randomly. Each one is priced at R100.Crowds start arriving by 6.30pm, they get to see what's on offer and buy R100 stickers in order to make bids. After a viewing period, there's a countdown for buying to begin. Then it's a case of fastest finger first for buyers to place stickers on works to secure their purchase.Night of 1000 Drawings has interesting origins . Back in 2006 a Joburg inner-city feeding project called Paballo ya Batho had its delivery truck stolen. This left hundreds of homeless people without their daily square meal as the organisation scrambled to try to replace the truck .An idea for donated doodles and arts became the fundraising rescue plan. Paballo ya Batho got a new truck, people got some art gems and the city got an event offering a massive unique art sale, live music and great food.Doodling for a difference has become a movement, with similar events taking place in Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Berlin, Tuscany, Belgium and Dubai. The Joburg event will benefit the nonprofit educational project Street Light Schools.Get your entry tickets at quicket.co.za..
