Bill on provincial funds passed

Parliament yesterday passed the division of revenue bill, which decides the amounts of money given to provinces as part of the supplementary budget process. The bill was passed almost a week late after the ANC failed to have enough MPs in the National Assembly to pass it last week.This has held up the budget process and is expected to mean the parliamentary session will be extended by a week.The division of revenue bill must now be assented to the nine provincial legislatures, after public participation.After the legislatures have approved these supplementary budgets, it has to be passed by the parliamentary appropriations committee.Adoption of the bill comes as the Gauteng government prepares to ask for a larger share of the budget allocation. Gauteng has had a surge in population as people come from other provinces to greener pastures.Statistics revealed Gauteng is home to 21.3% of the population...
