Highveld Lions bowlers are doing the roaring

Aaron Phangiso, Eddie Leie and Dwaine Pretorius have steered the Highveld Lions to back-to-back victories with ball in hand in the Ram Slam Twenty20 competition, but the team's batting performance is something of a concern for coach Geoffrey Toyana. Pretorius helped the Lions to a six-run win over the Dolphins at the weekend when he claimed two wickets in three balls, rescuing the Johannesburg-based side from the clasp of defeat.Spinners Phangiso, with 11 wickets so far in the competition, and Leie (10) are among the top wicket-takers and have been consistent performers in the Lions' six matches played so far.Tomorrow, Toyana's charges are back in action in the only mid-week game of the competition, when they take on the winless Knights at Potchefstroom's Senwes Park. This time the Lions coach is hoping his batsmen will come to the party."I really think our batting is something we need to be concerned about. We can't continue depending on our bowlers, guys like Aaron Phangiso, Eddie Leie and Dwaine Pretorius, to take us home every game," Toyana said yesterday."Our batting has to sort itself out. There is a team meeting [today] where we will discuss this in-depth. It is always good to win and reflect. It was an ugly win at the weekend, we snatched victory from the hand of defeat."One of the men who has shown signs of promise in the Lions' batting line-up has been veteran Alviro Petersen. The 34-year-old former Proteas opener scored an unbeaten 60 against the Dolphins on Sunday, having been moved down the order to No4 by Toyana...
