Garbage will not be collected in Johannesburg until further notice as Pikitup workers continue with protest action that started on Monday. SA Municipal Workers Union Gauteng regional chairman Conel Mackay said workers were downing tools until their demands were met."The workers are meeting [today] to discuss the way forward with Pikitup and union leaders," Mackay said. "We have two demands: The MD [Pikitup managing director Amanda Nair] must go, and inconsistent salary payments must be rectified."Mackay said Pikitup's general workers were paid the least in the entire city.Jacky Mashapu, Pikitup general manager, said management was open to address concerns but workers should return to work."[Workers] are encouraged to make use of the established process for engagement," he said.Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to keep their bins inside until further notice...
