The newly elected KwaZulu-Natal leadership of the ANC lost no time before flexing its muscles with the announcement yesterday that its chairman, Sihle Zikalala, will be "deployed" to the provincial legislature. Zikalala's move to the legislature means that he will swop roles with the party's provincial secretary, Super Zuma.Reforms in the provincial executive that could lead to a provincial cabinet reshuffle are thought to be on the cards.Zuma said yesterday that Zika-lala and the provincial executive committee had met the KwaZulu-Natal cabinet, 60% of which is no longer in the party's highest decision-making body.Zuma refused to say if a cabinet reshuffle was on the cards ."All I'm saying is that the only vacancy the chairman is filling was left by the secretary, whose new role means he has to be full time in the office of the ANC."He said the new provincial executive committee was focused on the local government elections.Zuma said the PEC respected the right of ANC members to raise grievances as they did with the protest march to the party's headquarters last week."We always prefer that such matters are handled internally and in a dignified manner."Since the [marchers'] memorandum was directed to the national leadership, the PEC will await the response of our national leadership on all matters raised," said Zuma.He said the provincial working committee welcomed Premier Senzo Mchunu's letter, in which he distanced himself from the march...
