Lira wants the world

26 November 2015 - 02:06 By Leonie Wagner

You'd be wrong to think Lira has taken a break; she's been getting ready to go global. Breaking her four-year silence, Lira is working on her next album and it's set to be her best yet.The platinum-selling singer will give her fans an exclusive sneak listen of her latest work at her Evolution concert at the weekend. The full album will be launched locally in January, and in Europe and the US in March.Lira said: "I wanted to be a global icon, that was always my plan. I grew up in a world where I was limited by my skin colour, so I will not allow anyone to limit me now. It's not enough to know freedom, I need to live it."The album is everything fans have come to expect from the singer - and more. There are deeply sultry love songs with lyrics like "You're like a heavenly taste of sin" and inspirational jazz ballads with beats that will get even the rhythmically challenged on the dance floor. In essence, Lira's new album will effortlessly transport fans from the bedroom to the pulpit, without the gaudy aftertaste of religion. It's clear that 2016 is going to be the year of Lira, with the release of her album, her debut on The Voice South Africa and then later the premiere of her reality series."I am tired, but I would do it all over again," she said. "On stage, there is no greater freedom. I'm so happy and, if anything, I know that I've achieved that - who needs a Grammy?"She explained: "Some fans get lost along the way, but that's okay; I have a responsibility to myself to grow."Her Evolution concert will take place at Carnival City in Ekurhuleni and fans who are accustomed to her extravagant production might be surprised because she is planning to "bring it back to basics".Lira will perform six songs from her coming album, together with the classics she's known for.Tickets range from R150 to R350 with a VIP meet-and-greet session...
