TKZee ready to rock Maftown

TKZee get back together to perform, possibly for the last time, at tonight's Maftown Heights Festival at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg. When the kwaito trio - comprising Tokollo Tshabalala, Kabelo "BougaLuv" Mabalane and Zwai Bala - were asked to join this year's line-up, they agreed "why not"?The '90s band, whose hits include Phalafala, Dlala Mapantsula, Shibobo and Izinja Zam,are legendary.Since the group was named to appear on the line-up, excitement has been mounting.Prominent local house DJ Oskido tweeted: "I'm actually looking forward to watching @tkzeeband perform again. It's been a while. Thank you!! @MaftownHeights".@Rea_brat tweeted: "Imagine how buck the stage is gonna be when Tkzee is on stage #MaftownHeights15".Festivalgoers can look forward to an exciting performance from the Fiasco hit makers.Tshabalala, known as Magesh, said: "Everybody is just going to have fun." BougaLuv, as Mabalane is known, said "whenever TKZee performs, it's always such a special moment"."We'll all be surprised when we hit that stage," said Bala with a laugh.Asked how they've managed to last in an industry that's constantly changing, they all agree it's because of their authenticity."Be real and genuine about your craft. Be honest with the people in terms of what you give them," said Tshabalala.Bala said their secret to success was in their songwriting. "We wrote songs that were nothing like what was out there. We were listening to classics like Frank Sinatra as we tried to make majestic music."Maftown Heights, co-founded by Khuli Chana and Refiloe Ramogase, aims to unite the Motswako hip-hop family whileshowcasing fresh talent.Performers this year include Chana, Mo Molemi, Tuks, Fifi Cooper, HHP, Towdee Mac, Riky Rik, KO, AKA, PH Raw X, Vuzu Amp Hustle Season 1 Winner, Big Star Johnson and many more. New kids Priddy Ugly, K2 and Jay Makopo will also be showcased.The festival kicks off at 3pm...
