Zuma's incredible move

11 December 2015 - 02:24 By Mzukisi Gaba, Cape Town

President Jacob Zuma has fired Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene only 18 months into his job, causing the rand to plunge to a record low. Zuma said, "I have decided to remove Mr Nhlanhla Nene as Minister of Finance, ahead of his deployment to another strategic position."It's incredible that Zuma has dismissed Nene ahead of his deployment to another strategic position. Is Nene to blame for the downgrading of South Africa by rating agencies?Of course, if redeployment signals a change of course in favour of economic growth and employment Zuma would have delivered a good Christmas present. If the new minister, David van Rooyen, pursues old economic policy, then a junk rating is inevitable. ..
