Skywise passengers told to wait for liquidation

Skywise Airline passengers who paid for flight insurance will not get a refund even if their flights were cancelled. The Regent Insurance Company, part of the Imperial Group, offered insurance to Skywise with some passengers paying R25 for it.But Regent has said refunds will kick in only if the airline goes into liquidation.Though Skywise has been grounded for nearly two weeks because of unpaid parking and landing fees owed to Airports Company SA and Air Traffic Navigation Services, it has not been liquidated.It owes the two companies a combined R8-million.Regent spokesman Michelle Abrahams said: "Refunds extend to the passengers only in the event of a liquidation of Skywise. This has not yet materialised."Abrahams said passengers whose flights were cancelled could approach their credit card companies for a refund for services not received.Skywise did not respond to questions about whether it would offer refunds.Last week, the airline used Nelson Mandela's grand-daughter, Ndileka Mandela, whose family has invested in the airline, to plead for the company to be saved.Two weeks ago, the low-cost airline asked investors to deposit money into its account, but said it would give investors information on their investments only after they had made a payment.Skywise took off in February with 40 flights a week between Johannesburg and Cape Town.The airline was grounded on December 2...
