'Fransman more than a touch bad for us'

Members of the ANC's provincial executive committee want Marius Fransman to step down as the party's chairman in Western Cape after he was accused of sexually harassing a female employee. Senior ANC officials in the province have so far allowed Fransman to stay on in his post but a PEC member said with municipal elections four months away, Fransman was a liability and he would ask that he step down, pending the conclusion of the criminal case against him.The accuser, a 20-year-old woman Fransman hired as a personal assistant, laid charges against him with North West police last week.The man said if Fransman declined to step down, he would table the matter for debate at a PEC meeting due to be held this week."It's an embarrassment. The whole thing jeopardises the organisation and it may cost us in the polls," said the PEC member, who spoke on condition of anonymity.Another member said: "This will dent us when we speak about morality."According to the ANC's constitution, a party member has to lay a complaint with the party for any member to face disciplinary action.Fransman's deputy, Khaya Magaxa, argued the accuser is not a member of the ANC, and thus Fransman should not be suspended until the legal process had been concluded."No complainant came and made a complaint to us."DA Western Cape leader Patricia de Lille said when Faiz Jacobs attacked and bloodied an ANC staff member , the ANC suspended him right away .She added: "Yet when the victim is a woman, new to the ANC staff ranks, we see dithering and delays."Fransman declined to comment and referred The Times to Magaxa...
