The Hawks will petition the Supreme Court of Appeal in an attempt to stop the unit's former KwaZulu-Natal head, Major-General Johan Booysen, from returning to work. Last week the Durban High Court denied the Hawks leave to appeal its decision to nullify Booysen' s suspension .Judge Anton van Zyl ruled that there was no prospect of a successful appeal against his November 18 overturning of the suspension of Booysen on the grounds of allegations of fraud.Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the unit's national head, Lieutenant-General Mthandazo Ntlemeza, had noted the ruling and had taken legal advice."Ntlemeza has instructed his attorneys to file a petition with the Supreme Court of Appeal."Pending the finalisation of the petition, the status quo will remain, to the effect that Booysen remains on suspension," Mulaudzi saidBooysen was suspended on September 14 by Ntlemeza shortly after Ntlemeza was appointed national head of the Hawks. There have been allegations that Booysen's suspension was politically motivated. ..
