SA communist Party general secretary Blade Nzimande yesterday cast doubt on his party's working relationship with the ANC in their KwaZulu-Natal alliance. Nzimande yesterday visited the Inchanga community, west of Durban, where two men were shot and killed during an SACP community meeting on Sunday.He visited the family of Phillip Dlamini, 68, one of the men killed.Dlamini and another man, believed to be employed by a security company contracted to the ANC, were shot dead at the Kandokweni sports ground.Nzimande said he had been shocked by the news and had to leave an important meeting to attend to the situation."I hope that, as an alliance, we will be able to - and we are quite capable - face these obstacles. However, the existence of these pre-conditions is concerning to the alliance, especially as we are going to local government elections. We need to identify where all this is coming from," said Nzimande.Accompanied by SACP provincial secretary Themba Mthembu and eThekwini mayor James Nxumalo, who is the SACP provincial chair and a local resident, Nzimande was told by local SACP supporters that the local ANC has often prevented them from participating in ANC activities."There's a lot of gate-keeping. We took this issue to [ANC leaders] Gwede Mantashe and Lindiwe Sisulu when they were here. They even tasked [former ANC Youth League treasurer] Pule Mabe to deal with our issues, but nothing has come out of it," said a man who identified himself only as Lucky.The SACP claimed a hitman shot dead Dlamini and the security guards, and injured three others.The killings have been labelled "politically motivated". Mthembu said he believed the murders were a result of political intolerance."[There is no doubt the killings] were definitely politically motivated," he said early this week.Nzimande called for calm and said he would ask provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni to assign a high-level investigation team."I was shocked to hear two men arrested for this crime were released, but we will leave that to the police. We will put pressure on them until we know who killed baba Dlamini," he said.Nxumalo, who was supposed to be at the meeting, but was delayed, said he was about to leave for the stadium when he heard about "50 shots" coming from the grounds.SACP members told Nzimande they suspected ANC branch executive members at the scene.Nzimande cautioned against accusations, saying he knew the ANC was not a party of criminals, but said there were a few criminals who hide behind the ANC flag.The ANC was also holding a meeting in the area.Mluleki Ndobe, provincial ANC deputy secretary, said: "We are very concerned about instability in ward 4 of eThekwini region. Police are busy with investigations on the occurrences in the area. We urge members of the community and ANC members to work hand in glove with police to bring back peace and stability in the area."..
