Fame awaits if these four like your tone

Manipulating, begging, crying. These are some of the ploys audiences can expect from Afro-soul singer Lira Kohl, rocker Karen Zoid, The Parlotones' Kahn Morbee and Afrikaans pop star Bobby van Jaarsveld on M-Net's latest singing reality show, The Voice SA, on Sunday. The four - referred to as "coaches" on the local spin-off - are known for belting out big hits and now it's their turn to pass on their craft to their chosen hopefuls. The Voice director Darren Hayward said he was pleased with the choice of coaches because "they represent diverse music genres and that is very important”.Hundreds of hopefuls will be screened in blind auditions, at which the coaches sit in revolving chairs with their backs to the entrants as they sing.If a coach is interested he or she will sound a buzzer. If more than one coach buzzes, the entrants can choose which coach he wants to work with.Kohl, known for her hits Feel Good and Hamba, said the worst part about the blind auditions was "turning around after they've sung and explaining why you didn't choose them"."There were tears and times when we apologised, or fought for people when we realised we could win the competition with that person."I'd love to say I've got the winner but it's tough at this point," she said. For crossover artist Zoid "song choice was key".The Voice SA premieres on Sunday on M-Net channel 101 at 5.30pm...
