Men's Trends: Blankets warm up the camp

28 January 2016 - 02:26 By Rea Khoabane

Photographer and blogger Trevor Stuurman was at Menswear fashion week in Milan and Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy, this month where he found that South African designers like Laduma Ngxokolo and Thabo Makhetha are right on trend with their blanket-inspired collections. According to Stuurman, the biggest trend in men's fashion this year is the blanket. ''It's the perfect item with which to create an interesting silhouette and it also offers comfort and warmth."Stuurman believes this trend is well suited to South African fashion.''It will work parallel with South African winter 2016 trends, because the blanket is rooted in our cultures. The Sothos' blanket (seanamarena) is already part of the Sotho male's cultural identity. Xhosa men wear blankets during initiation time and so do the Ndebele."And his favourite ? ''I loved the Adidas show for its excellent production and Generation Africa was a great treat to watch. It was wonderful to see African designers creating looks that are completely different from the rest of the world." ..
